Whether we admit to it or not, we can all have a good cry thanks to a well-written and emotionally told story, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Video games have a unique advantage with emotional storytelling over most forms of entertainment. Sure, we can feel emotionally invested in characters from our favouritemovies and TVseries, but with video games, for the most part at least, we’re in control of the leading character, arguably forming a stronger bond, as well as with the supporting characters. This is probably why video games have broken me more than any other form of entertainment.

Whether it’sMarvel’s Spider-Man,Gears of War 3,Telltale’s The Walking DeadorThe Last of Us, having a good cry helps to purify our souls. One other game that had broken me, wasRed Dead Redemption 2. To be fair, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise if you had finished the originalRDRin 2010. Man, that game still hits hard 13 years later.

It’s worth mentioning that the scene in which Athur’s horse dies may differ depending on how long you kept the same horse inRed Dead Redemption 2. For example, I acquired the White Arabian Horse very early on in the game and it stayed with me until the end. If that happens, you’ll be greeted with a much more emotional scene when the horse dies, in comparison to a rather dismissive scene if you have multiple horses throughout the campaign.
In related news, rumours have been running rampant that aremake of the originalRed Dead Redemptionis on the wayandit may arrive before Christmas. Yee-haw!
As of right now,Red Dead Redemption 2is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. What’s more, it is also backwards compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
