You never know quite where Assassin’s Creed is going to take you next; like a leaf on the wind, you are pulled along and go where it takes you. Sometimes that’s resulted in high praise from the AC fandom, and other times they get very upset and throw their toys out of the pram. Today’s news falls into the former category, with fans praising the franchise for going all modern in future games.
Hailed as a “great” decision, fans believe that ‘Assassin’s Creed2099’, otherwise known asAssassin’s Creed Red, is going to take us into the future rather than keep us rigidly stuck in the past.
Where willyougo inAssassin’s Creed Red?
The first hints of this information came after a dataminer discovered unused audio of two Animus operators talking about the 21st century and William Miles as being “ancient history”. Reportedly though, this audio is hinting atAssassin’s Creed Hexeand notRed. However, while the codenames keep information slightly foggy, this, partnered with an inside source, seemingly proves thatAC will head to the futurefor large portions of the next instalment.

Another fan wrote, “Colour me curious. MD [Modern Day] did start as “the future” back inAC1, with e-mails painting a different picture of the world outside. It surely injects a heavy dose of mystery into it again. Let’s see how it pans out.” They make a strong point – AC has been lacking mystery in recent years, so for all these twists and turns to suddenly appear in the wake ofMirage, it keeps the franchise interesting, it makes us invested again.
Whatever happens next, it’s going to be exciting. We just hope, like other gamers do, that Basim doesn’t get “completely dropped” after only just making his debut.
