Despite the latestAssassin’s Creedgames featuring new and original protagonists every time there’s a new entry, fans seemingly miss the days when the games would follow one character or family through different generations.

While the first name that’ll likely come to mind will be“gaming’s greatest character”Ezio Auditore da Firenze fromAssassin’s Creed II,BrotherhoodandRevelations, the Kenway family follows closely behind him.

The first two Kenways appeared inAssassin’s Creed III, where the protagonist Connor Kenway faced off against his antagonist father, the Templar Haysham Kenway.Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flagthen followed up with a prequel story about Connor’s swashbuckling grandfather, andthe best Assassin’s Creed protagonist, Edward Kenway.
After that, the family seemingly disappeared from the series, outside of namedrops and references in future titles.
The next game to release afterBlack FlagwasAssassin’s Creed Rogue, which made the bold decision to have players control an assassin-hunting Templar called Shay Patrick Cormac, a conceptUbisoftreportedly wanted to explore for a while.
Now, fans are criticising the decision to abandon the Kenway family after Black Flag, believing Assasin’s Creed Rogue should have been a story about Haysham Kenway, thus creating a Kenway Trilogy, similar to the Ezio Trilogy.

Reddit user Novel_Assist_6491 shared this belief in a postsaying: “The Kenway Trilogy” was absolutely a missed opportunity. With how much fans loved the Ezio trilogy, and the reception to 3 and 4 and the characters of Connor and Edward, it would have made sense to base a game on Haytham.”
Many fans agreed, some citing the various reasons as to why a complete trilogy never came to fruition.
“The game (AC Rogue) would’ve been about Haytham but the Forsaken novel released with AC3 made it too difficult and they didn’t want to contradict and muddy the lore!”

“Haytham is most interesting; the son of an assassin who grows up to be a templar while despising most templars. I agree, missed opportunity.”
Despite there being11 new Assassin’s Creed games on the horizon, it’s unlikely any will dip back into the series’ past, focusing more on standalone adventures with the next beingAssassin’s Creed Mirage, whichrecently went gold!
Assassin’s Creed Miragewill release on the 5th of October later this year.
