One of my absolute favourite things about Assassin’s Creed as a series is that it’s able to go anywhere in time. Or should that be anywhen? No, that sounds dumb. Let’s stick with anywhere.
Assassin’s Creedhas taken us on adventures throughGreece, France,Egyptand even Britain far more times than someone raised in the UK is happy about. But we’ve never gone anything like as far backthe Aztecs. The good news is that wearegetting a new open-world RPG set during the ancient era, and it looks an awful lot like an Assassin’s Creed game. The catch? It’s not actually an Assassin’s Creed game.

The game follows an Aztec warrior in a Mesoamerican city, forced to fight off Spanish inquisitors using a mix of brutal combat, and stealth.
Giantscraft has promised “a strong narrative, RPG progression with blood sacrifices, gritty combat, stealth gameplay, and crafting.” The game is still very early in development so we don’t know much more at this point, but it’s definitely sounding promising.
Players can choose from three classes: Jaguar Warrior, Eagle Warrior and Snake Warrior. It’s not confirmed, but we would assume each come with their own abilities and characteristics. Snake will likely be the stealthy choice, while Eagle Warrior may be an expert with ranged weapons. Jaguar will be dead good at racing, or more realistically a melee build.
As with any good RPG, there’ll be skills to unlock via a skill tree, though gaining access to them will require you to sacrifice humans in rituals. It’s unclear whether you’ll have to do this to progress, but being given the choice would definitely make for an interesting moral dilemma. Sacrifice your people so you can better fight the enemy, or refuse and fight with what you have?

Ecumene Aztedsounds like it’ll be worth keeping an eye on, but with Ubisoft bolstering their workforce due toseveral new Assassin’s Creed projects in the works, including the upcomingAssassin’s Creed: Mirage, the title will have some steep competition.
