Assassin’s Creed: Inferno trailer imagines a brutal WWII setting

Put on your make-believe hats, this fan-made trailer imagines what an Assassin’s Creed game would look like during WWII.

Assassin’s Creedgames can take place almost anywhere at any time. That being said, very few have dared to venture into a more modern setting, instead sticking to ancient civilisations, mediaeval times and similar time periods. The closest we’ve gotten to the 1900’s wasAssassin’s Creed Syndicate, which takes place in the 1860’s.

Now afan-made trailerhas imagined what a more modern release could look like, blending footage fromCall Of Duty: Vanguard,Sniper Elite 5andBattlefield5to create a concept for a WWII Assassin’s Creed game.

Whether Ubisoft decides to go all-in with a more modern setting remains to be seen, though there’s no denying it could work. Modern cities have plenty of verticality for parkour, and with a few modern gadgets to make it more manageable or realistic like a grappling hook or supernatural artefact there’s potential for some of the best open-world sandboxes the franchise has seen so far.

For the next few years at least, the Assassin’s Creed games will be stuck in the past though maybe one day we’ll get a modern release.
