
Some could argue that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series has lost its way in recent years despite its quality.
While not perfect with its somewhat clunky gameplay and stealth mechanics that were far behind the likes ofMetal Gear SolidandSplinter Cell, when the firstAssassin’s Creedwas released in 2007, its potential was quite clear.

However, with the arrival ofAssassin’s Creed Originsin 2017, despite ultimately being a stealth game, it leaned heavily into the RPG genre with an open world and approach to missions as well as its XP and skill tree systems. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the series post-2017, but it is a far cry from what it once was.
So whenAssassin’s Creed Miragewas officiallyannounced in September 2022and promised to take the series back to its roots, veteran fans were bursting with excitement. Yet, that’s not to say that we won’t see the end of the RPG era, but it still might be coming to an end soon, that’s at least according to an industry insider.

Responding to a thread discussingAssassin’s Creed Redrumours, Harker simplyreplied“REDwill be the last of theOriginsformula.” There were no further details on that response in terms of where the information came from so it should be taken with a pinch of salt. That being said, it’s also not a far-fetched suggestion. What’s more, offering some substance to the credentials of Harker, the Redditor sharing the post mentions that the insider was apparently aware ofAssassin’s Creed Odysseybefore its launch in 2018.
In related news, another rumour claims that the release ofAssassin’s Creed Redcould bemuch closer than initially believedand fans are calling for aCold War-era-inspired spy game.
At this time, there is no release date forAssassin’s Creed Red, but it is believed to launch sometime in 2024. For the immediate future,Assassin’s Creed Miragewill be released for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on 12 October 2023.
