However, he will be taking on the role of Doctor Doom as opposed to Tony Stark/Iron Man, much to our shock when it was announced earlier this year.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo may be returning for the next instalment but according to Joe, he would have not returned to theMCUif it wasn’t for a “good reason”.
However, he believes thatDoomsdayis set to be on “equal footing” asAvengers: Infinity WarandEndgamewhen it comes to game-changing superhero movies.

In aninterviewwith GamesRadar+, Joe said: “We’re all very close [referring to the relationship between the Russos and Downey Jr.].
“We had been working on another project before Marvel approached all of us – so we’re working on another project with Robert – and there was a story that evolved through conversations that we got very excited about. Because it’s always got to be the story.”
He continued: “Why would we come back if we didn’t feel like we had a story that had that possibility of being on an equal footing withInfinity WarandEndgameunless there’s a kernel there for an idea that’s really explosive?”
Avengers: Doomsdaycurrently has a release date of 1 May, 2026 withAvengers: Secret Warsset to follow in May 2027.
