Perhaps due to the recent success ofBaldur’s Gate 3,Netflix has set its sights on securing the rights to a live-action adaptation of the Dungeons & Dragons inspired setting.
Since the success of HBO’sThe Last of Usand at least the first season ofThe Witcher,video game adaptations are all the rage. However, with video game adaptations comes a legion of dedicated fans that are prepared to be disappointed. Luckily,Netflixis feeling brave enough to tackle it.

If this goes ahead, it won’t be the first live-action adaptation set in the Forgotten Realms.Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieveswas released in March this year and saw Chris Pine lead a band of unlikely adventurers on a quest to retrieve a lost relic. The movie was met with rave reviews and led fans itching for moreDungeons & Dragonsinspired media. Now thanks to Netflix, they might be in luck.
It remains to be seen if Netflix will secure the rights to Baldur’s Gate but even if it does, it is no stranger to cancelling popular shows. It could also follow in the footsteps ofThe Witcheradaptation and replace its lead stars. Either way, bringing the video game series to Netflix will be a sure way of bringing in a new fan base. Let’s hope it will be worth it.
