Batman: Arkham Knight hailed as one of the greatest action games of all time

Over the years comic book to video game adaptations has been a little tainted offering more flops than critical successes, at least during the early years.

Before Superheroes were able to turn a corner in the world of video games, we had to make do with the likes of Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis (2003), Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000) and the dreaded Superman 64 (1999).

That’s not to say we didn’t get one or two gems, such as the TMNT Arcade (1989), Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (2006) to name but a few. However, some say that such adaptations didn’t really turn a corner until 2009 with Batman: Arkham Asylum, a game which many consider to be the best superhero game of all time.

Granted, at least on PC, Batman: Arkham Knight had a troubled lunch, but from what I could tell at the time, console players were having an absolute blast in the latest Caped Crusader entry. Like the entries that came before, Batman: Arkham Knight would prove to be a critical success with scores as high as 87on Metacritic.

“8 years ago today, Rocksteady delivered one of THE greatest action video games of ALL-TIME in ‘Arkham Knight’,” said Twitter account @ArkhamNumb.

The sheer fluidity of the gameplay is second to none,” agreed @sw_jango.
