Batman prequel explains where Joker was during Dark Knight Rises

We all know thatThe Dark Knightis one of the greatest superhero movies of all time, mostly in part due to the performance of the late Heath Ledger as the Joker.

However, when the third part in the trilogy was released and included no mention of one ofBatman’smost notorious enemies, some fans were left perplexed.

However, it was the second movie,The Dark Knight, that is considered to be the very best as we got to see Bale and Ledger go head-to-head in an exciting cat-and-mouse chase across Gotham.

Unfortunately, Ledger passed away in January 2008, makingThe Dark Knighthis last movie and this is the main reason why Nolan decided to leave the Joker storyline with him.

In aninterviewwith Empire back in 2021, Nolan revealed that there were no references to the Joker inThe Dark Knight Risesout of respect for Ledger’s legacy.

The director didn’t want to “try and account for a real-life tragedy” and instead focused the third instalment on brand-new villain, Bane.

Although this is both a respectable and understandable reason, fans did still quietly wonder what happened to the Joker after the events ofThe Dark Knight.

However, we may now know thanks to the novelisation ofThe Dark Knight Rises.

However, the Joker remained at Arkham as its sole inmate and as nobody knows what happened to him after that, he could have very well escaped or still be there to this day.

Either way, I think we can all agree that Nolan made the right call here as Ledger’s Joker will go down as one of the best villains in movie history.
