Batman: The Animated Series is finally back

It’s been 25 years sinceBatman: The Animated Seriesaired its final episode. While plenty ofBatmanshows have come and gone since they never lived up to the legacy the animated show left in its wake.

Here’s a peak at the next major DC project on the horizon, theBlue Beetlefilm.

Boasting incredible storylines, a timeless art style and spectacular performances fromthe late Kevin ConroyandMark Hamillas Batman and Joker respectively, it truly is the definitive choice for classic dark knight adventures.

It’s also fondly remembered for its tone and themes. The majority of children’s shows in the 90s tended to shy away from adult stories and imagery, whereasBatman: The Animated Adventurestackled them head-on, leading to some truly legendary storylines. Another fun fact is the show was the origin of fan-favourite character Harley Quinn, who became so popular from her initial episode that she stuck around for the long run, and became the belovedDCcharacter she is today.

Several issues were released and will now be collected into an omnibus called Batman Adventures: Vol. 1. The featured issues include:The Batman Adventures #1-36, The Batman Adventures Annual #1, The Batman Adventures Annual #2, The Batman Adventures Holiday Special #1, The Batman Adventures: Mad Love #1, and stories fromBatman: Black & White Omnibus.

While it may not be the return we’d hoped for, it’s definitely appreciated, and we can only hope it encourages DC to put some thought behind a true animated revival of the best Batman series.
