The Call of Duty franchise is one of the video game industry’s biggest money-makers, which is why we’ve seen a release pretty much on a year-on-year basis, other than one or two exceptions.
The success of Call of Duty is no doubt a major contributing factor as to why Microsoft is willing to pay aneye-watering $68.7 billionto acquire its publisher,Activision Blizzard. What’s more, its success is also why Sony has fought tooth and nail to ensure that it doesn’t lose the Call of Duty series from its PlayStation consoles, which recently resulted in abinding agreement between Microsoft and Sony.

If the content is to carry over intoModern Warfare III, it will be the first time that this has happened in a Call of Duty sequel. While we can only speculate, a reason for this could be due to recent rumours claiming that this year’s Call of Duty wasreportedly going to be an expansion toModern Warfare II, which now looks like it may have evolved into its own standalone game. Either way, I’m sure there will be many fans happy not to lose items and progress with the new release.
At this time, Activision hasn’t confirmedCall of Duty: Modern Warfare III, let alone announced a release date. That being said, hopefully, the publisher will reveal all in the coming weeks.
