Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update may break your PC, expert warns

Cyberpunk 2077is a game that most certainly had a troubled launch but with its first and only expansion on the way withPhantom Liberty, fans of CD Projekt Red are excited for its release.

WhenCyberpunk 2077was released in 2020 forPC,PlayStation 4andXbox One(oh, andGoogle Stadia), its bubble quickly burst within hours of its arrival. Granted, while not perfect, the PC version of the game was arguably the best of the bunch, as long as you had a capable system. However, it was a totally different story for PS4 and Xbox One.

Sony considered the state ofCyberpunk 2077to be so below par, that itremoved the sci-fi RPG from sale via its digital store. Thankfully,it would return in 2021, though it was still far from a perfect game. Over time followingmany substantial patches,Cyberpunk 2077is now pretty much the game it was always promised to be. Well, at least on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Hopefully with the bad times now in the rear-view mirror, CD Projekt RedannouncedPhantom Libertyin 2022. The expansion would not only add a new area to Night City but also new missions, abilities and much more. We’re even being treated toIdris Elba starring as the brooding Solomon Reed.

During Summer Game Fest, we got to seeplenty ofPhantom Libertyin action, further building up the hype for the expansion. Then at Gamescom Opening Night Live, ‘Update 2.0’ was announced that would launch alongsidePhantom Liberty(or so we thought).

Update 2.0 will improve enemy AI during combat, as well as the AI of the Night City Police Department. It will also add a new Relic skill tree and make various quality-of-life improvements. Best of all, this update is available to everyone who ownsCyberpunk 2077for free, regardless of whether you purchase the expansion or not.

Obviously, with the arrival ofPhantom Libertyand Update 2.0 on the horizon, it should be a time of jubilation for fans. Unfortunately, a PC expert has predicted potential doom for those who download the update and has warned that it may break your PC. Yikes!

Pierściński warns that due to the high demands of the upcoming expansion and update, GPUs and CPUs will be working overtime. “Before the release ofCyberpunk 2077Update 2.0 andPhantom Liberty, please check the conditions of your cooling systems on your PC,” he said.

Pierściński continued to warn that the workload of the CPU on 8 Core will be as high as 90% which could cause PCs to overheat and has urged followers to check their systems for stability before running the update and expansion.
