We all know nothing can possibly last forever, but that doesn’t make endings any less heartbreaking when they do come around.

Cyberpunk 2077’s journey over the past few years from cautionary tale to one of thefinest RPGs ever madehas been a joy to watch. Yes, the greatness was always withinCyberpunk 2077, but nobody could possibly argue it was in good shape at launch.

Fast forward to 2024 andCyberpunk 2077is a hit, with one huge expansion anda number of incredible updatesunder its belt. Unfortunately, as we all knew would be the case sooner or the later, our time in Night City draws to a close.

In a recentinterviewwith Game File,Cyberpunk 2077 2.0andPhantom Libertydirector Gabe Amatangelo confirmed the focus is now fully onthe sequel. The unfortunate upshot of this? Don’t expect any more major updates for the current Cyberpunk RPG.

“We’re done,” Amatangelo told Game File, though he did concede “it’s possible that there’s some other little thing that comes in here or there.” In other words, we can expect the occasional smaller tweak or fix, but the days of chunky updates like entirely new metro systems and overhauled progression are behindCyberpunk 2077.

He added: “Just because, as you’re kind of messing around with stuff, sometimes you discover something that is not a high risk. Or it’s easy to integrate. Or, you know, some developers have some bandwidth.”

It’s worth noting we have no idea when the sequel toCyberpunk 2077will release, but with everything else CDPR has going on right now, I’d imagine it’ll be a lengthy wait. It is, however, a wait I think we’re happy to endure.
