There is a side quest that takes you to where Johnny’s body gets dumped after his consciousness has been downloaded, but it turns out that’s not actually the end of the story.
According to theCyberpunk REDstory book, a tabletop game set in the same universe, a group of edgrunner’s were reportedly tasked with retrieving Johnny’s body from where it was hidden.
When the body is found and retrieved in the story the box it’s hidden in is opened to reveal the corpse as well as a mini-nuke, and it’s been theorised for a long time that this was in fact the real Johnny Silverhand.

Of course this doesn’t quite sync up with the side story inCyberpunk 2077,but if the series creator is saying that’s what happened then you can’t really argue with it.
Perhaps it’ll be explored in more detail in the upcomingCyberpunk 2077sequel, though it’ll be several years before we even get a glimpse of that follow-up.
