Thankfully, despite the studio’s name being somewhat tarnished at the time, CDPR worked tirelessly to bringCyberpunk 2077to the standard that fans were led to expect when the sci-fi RPG was announced all those years ago. Well, at least on PC,PlayStation5 andXboxSeries X/S.

The fortunes ofCyberpunk 2077took an upward trajectory with the release of thefree new-gen updateand since that time, the CDPR title has steadily become one of the best RPGs in recent times. Then in September 2023, the highly anticipatedCyberpunk 2077expansion,Phantom Libertywas the cherry on top of CDPR’s road to redemption.

Yet, just this week, we learned thatCDPR has now ended its major updateand content support forCyberpunk 2077with much of the studio’s focus being on its sequel. However, for those who are eagerly awaiting theCyberpunk 2077sequel, you better be prepared for a long wait.

In arecent financial report, CDPR re-confirmed that theCyberpunk 2077sequel is currently in its “early stages of development”. So, what does this mean exactly and when can we expect the sequel to arrive?

At this time, there’s no way of knowing and it’s likely that not even CDPR has a release date in mind, perhaps just a year’s release window at best. It’s perhaps worth keeping in mind thatCyberpunk 2077was first announced in 2012 and from that time, it had taken eight years to be released in 2020.

Hopefully, we won’t be waiting nearly a decade for theCyberpunk 2077sequel to arrive but given that, CDPR likes to take its time developing games (and rightly so) not to mention not wanting to report those launch woes of 2020, we shouldn’t expect the sequel to arrive anytime soon.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertyis out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
