What a downhill slide it’s been for Twitter as of late. As I’m sure you’re now aware, Tesla founder Elon Musk took over Twitter last year followingan eye-watering $41 billion deal. Musk did actually attempt to back out of the deal, but it was eventually forced through. Since then, we’ve seen a number of questionable new features implemented and changes made. The verification system was torn away, and replaced with subscription service Twitter Blue. Temporarily, we had the 600 tweets a day cap - and in the past couple of days, we’ve been hearing about a limit on sending DMs. At this stage, Musk fails to surprise me with his silly antics but I’ll admit, I didn’t see this latest change coming.
Chief executive Linda Yaccarino took to Twitter to announce the name change, with Musk updating his profile picture and bio. Twitter will no longer simply be a social media app. X will transform it into a ‘super app’, whatever that means. Muskwrote, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”

She continued, “For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfill our great potential. X will do that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past [eight] months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started. There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well….everything. [Elon Musk] and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world.”
Watch out Zuckerberg. I’m imagining those Threads numbers are only going to grow.
