Fallout 76is getting a long-awaited feature in 2025 and fans are very excited, to say the least.
For years, fans of Bethesda’sFalloutseries have wanted to play as ghouls and without the aid of talented modders, that would have never been possible. However,Bethesdais finally making ghouls officially playable in the series withFallout 76.

The arrival of playable ghouls has been a long time coming and with the once-troubled multiplayer spin-offFallout 76being a live-service experience, hopefully, with this kind of content support, it should keep us busy untilFallout 5.

WhenFallout 76was launched in 2018 (the same year asThe Elder Scrolls VI’s announcement), to say that it didn’t launch in a good state would be an understatement. For starters, it never even had NPCs, not to mention that its servers struggled to keep up with demands.
Announced on ‘Fallout Day’ earlier this year, it was revealed that courtesy of an upcoming update in 2025, we will soon be able to play as ghouls. Perhaps, this could also be a test to see if playable ghouls are a viable option inFallout 5.
“Play as a ghoul,”readsan update from Bethesda on ‘Fallout Day’. “Playing as a ghoul opens up many new playstyles with the addition of ghoul-specific Perk cards and a new Feral meter. You won’t need to worry about hunger or thirst but remember, some people and factions just don’t take kindly to ghouls.”

As expected, many Fallout fans are looking forward to this update, but they still have some concerns. “The ghoul option just sounds way too good,”saidRedditor ryeaglin, kicking off the discussion on a thread.
“I truly want to believe Bethesda will make it fun, so it’ll bring some variety to our build options. But, you know, it’s a really complicated game mechanic,” said Emiaty. “You can’t just throw in a bunch of new perks and hope it’ll work out.”
“One thing I immediately thought about was overeating. Bethesda said we don’t need to worry about food because there’ll be a new meter,” CoMaBlitz replied. “So does it just not count or are we technically always well-fed?”
“No mutations and no blood makes me want to stay human. I’m waiting to see the perks and I’ll probably try it out for some variety, but I’m pretty sure I’ll fall back to my current build,” TheCousinAndy explained.

I fully expect there to be some bugs when this ghoul update arrives, but that should come as no surprise to fans of Bethesda. That being said, hopefully, it will launch with minimal bugs and those that occur will be quickly ironed out.
Fallout 76is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also included in an Xbox Game Pass subscription at no extra cost.
