Fallout 5’s release date is a very, very long way off, we’re afraid

Fans of Fallout may want to close their ears (and eyes) as Bethesda has revealed it will be many years untilFallout 5will be released due to the studio’s current work onThe Elder Scrolls 6.

WithFallout 4quickly approaching its 10-year anniversary, fans are eager for the next instalment to make an appearance. DespiteFallout 76holding the fort in recent years, there is nothing quite like a mainFalloutinstalment but it seems as though it may be a while until we get it.

This is as a result ofBethesdaboth hard at work makingStarfielda viable title long-term and also working onThe Elder Scrolls 6which only entered intofull developmentback in August 2023. Due to the studio’s diverted attention,Fallout 5has taken a backseat according to Todd Howard himself.

In a conversation in July this year, Bethesda executive Howard discussed the studio’s plans going forward.

Howard said: “Yes,Elder Scrolls 6is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doingFallout 5after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.”

No timeframe was provided for either title and we are unsure what these “other projects” are but with such a packed docket, some fans are worried we will not seeFallout 5until at least 2035! Additionally, Howard is unsure if he will even be present for the development of the Fallout sequel after revealingElder Scrolls VImay mark theend of his time at Bethesda.

With Howard making this statement before the launch ofStarfieldand the subsequent issues that have plagued its recent RPG, we can only imagine that the studio is facing even more problems that will need resolving before it turns its attention toFallout 5.
