It’s that time of year when we reflect on what video games brought us the most joy in 2024, whether we played on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or the Nintendo Switch.
We’ve been blessed with amazing titles, some of which I reviewed, such as theSilent Hill 2remakefrom Bloober Team. Being a passionate fan of the series since the originalPlayStationgame of 1999, I couldn’t have asked for a better remake of the critically acclaimed sequel.

Then we hadStellar Blade, which I went into not expecting much. I discovered a game that is not only visually stunning but features high-octane action that rivals the likes of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. Oh, and let’s not forgetLike a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Those three titles are all my strong contenders for Game of the Year.

However, I’ve gone for something a little different. I’ve gone for a game that I may only play for ten or twenty minutes at a time, but it’s a game that I often return to when I want to vent my frustrations. On top of that, it’s a silly game that will never stop being fun, no matter how often I play it.
Anyone who follows WWE or professional wrestling knows that it features drama and tension that any typical TV soap opera would be jealous of. Whether it’s on a weekly TV show or a monthly PLE, pro wrestlers' differences are expertly settled in the ring. It’s a wonderfully wacky form of entertainment perfectly captured inWWE 2K24.
Even without its DLC,WWE 2K24features over 200 pro wrestlers from the modern day such as Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair to legendary favourites from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Trish Stratus, Lita and much more.

I scoredWWE 2K249/10, putting it alongside my reviews ofSilent Hill 2,Stellar BladeandLike a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. To an outsider (not Kevin Nash and Scott Hall), such a score to putWWE 2K2Kalongside those Game of the Year contenders might be baffling. But if you’re a fan of pro wrestling, you’ll know exactly whyWWE 2K24earned this score.
Even if you’re not a fan of pro wrestling, the chances are that you can pick up, play and enjoyWWE 2K24. Simply put, this is exactly what video games should be and that’s fun. When I’m down in the dumps, few games can cheer me up more than hearing Stone Cold’s “I Won’t Do What You Tell Me” theme or CM Punks “Cult of Personality from Living Color. For that reason, the continued joy thatWWE 2K24has provided me is why it’s my Game of the Year.
WWE 2K24is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
