Ghost Of Tsushima studio explains why we’re ditching Jin for sequel

Sucker Punch, the studio behind the likes of severalPlayStationclassics such asSly CooperandInfamous, recently announced a sequel to their beloved 2020 hitGhost of Tsushima… and, naturally, that’s upset a lot of people.

Ghost of Yōtei, set to release in 2025, has drawn a lot of ire from “gamers” (using it in the derogatory sense here) who have taken issue with the fact that you’ll no longer be playing asGhost of Tsushima’sprotagonist Jin Sakai.

Instead, you’ll have to play as awoman. Oh, the humanity. Won’t they think of the children?!

Take a look at theGhost of Yōkeitrailer below.

In a recent poston the PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch went into detail regarding their decision to introduce a new protagonist in the sequel (not that they really had to justify it in the first place).

As senior communications manager Andrew Goldfarb explains, “When we set out to make a new Ghost game, we wanted to maintain the core pillars established inGhost of Tsushima: playing as a wandering warrior in Feudal Japan, offering freedom to explore at your own pace, and highlighting the beauty of the world.”

“To create something fresh but familiar, we looked beyond Jin Sakai’s story and the island of Tsushima, and shifted our focus to the idea of the Ghost instead… we love origin stories, and we wanted to explore what it could mean to have a new hero wearing a Ghost mask, and uncovering a new legend. This led us toGhost of Yōtei: a new protagonist, a new story to unfold, and a new region of Japan to explore.”

That bit about origin stories definitely rings true in Sucker Punch’s case, especially when you consider that the team changed their protagonist three times betweenInfamous 2,Infamous Second Son, andInfamous First Light.

For that reason, as beloved as he is, we don’t need another Jin Sakai story. But another Ghost game? Hell yeah, sign me up brother.
