Apparently bothSonyPictures TV andAmazonMGM Studios plan to hire a completely fresh writing team to help rework the series, even though Deadline’s source did state that executives working alongside Judkins were impressed with the scripts they’d already submitted.
Kratos last appeared in the freeValhallaDLC.
The scrapped idea for the show would have closely followed the plot of Santa Monica Studio’s 2018God of Warreboot. It would have followed Kratos and his son as they make their way through Midgard, in an attempt to fulfil his dead wife’s final wish of scattering her ashes from the highest peak in the land.

As of now, it’s currently not clear whether Sony and Amazon intend to move in a completely different direction with the story or to simply rewrite portions, but it does likely mean that we won’t see anything from the project until some time in the late 2020s.
Of course, this isn’t the only Sony property that’s currently in the works, as film adaptations ofGravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days GoneandUntil Dawnare also in the works.
It’s likely we’ll see more TV adaptations of Sony properties outside of God of War as well, as the HBO adaptation ofThe Last of Ushas already proven to be extremely successful (both critically and commercially).
