GoldenEye 007 hailed as the greatest movie-based game ever made

It’s fair to say that over the years, we’ve probably been cursed more than we have been blessed when it comes to movie video game adaptations.

That’s not to say that we haven’t had some decentmovietie-in video games with the likes ofThe Lord of the Rings:The Return of the King,Die Hard Trilogy,Peter Jackson’s King Kong, andSpider-Man 2all leading the way, to name but a few.

Check out the GoldenEye 007 trailer below!

However, one game that you might find to be at the top of most people’s list when it comes to movie tie-ins is theNintendo64 classic from 1997,GoldenEye 007. Which oddly released two years after the actual movie from 1995 starring Pierce Brosnan asJames Bond.

While today thegameplay ofGoldenEye 007hasn’t perhaps aged too well, there’s little denying that this game still isn’t fun to play, especially when it comes to its split-screen multiplayer. Oh and yes, you still can’t choose Oddjob, ok? Recently,GoldenEye 007was releasedfor Xbox and Nintendo Switch not only being delightful news for original fans but also to those who may have missed its initial release all those years ago.

With that in mind, fans on Reddit have been discussing the absolute classic that isGoldenEye 007. “What’s the best movie-based game ever made?”askedRedditor RxKingRx. There were many worthy mentions on the thread, but of course, the aforementioned beloved espionage title was a hot topic of discussion.

“GoldenEye 007is the benchmark in this regard, I know it’s aged poorly but the impact it had can’t be understated,” said JudasBC. “How many hours, playing four-player on a s****y, not large, curved CRT TV, all sitting on the floor because that’s how far the cords went?” replied karma_dumpster, before mentioning the unwritten rule of “No Oddjob”.

“If you think it’s aged poorly, do yourself a favour, and get yourself an Xbox 360 emulator, and the ROM for the unreleased remake ofGoldenEye 007for Xbox 360. The game was complete but it fell into limbo because of licensing issues with the 007 franchise,” suggested Wolfinthesno. “It is everything you’d want from a remake ofGoldenEye 007in that generation…you can even switch back and forth from N64 to 360 graphics with the press of a button.”

Arguably, the best way to play this gem is still on the Nintendo 64 in my opinion, however, that can be quite an expensive process nowadays. So do yourself a favour, if you ownRare Replayon Xbox or you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, take a trip down memory lane withGoldenEye 007. Just remember though, no Oddjob!
