Set to rival games likeEscape From Tarkov, due to its extraction gameplay style; andCall of Duty, due to its gunplay,Gray Zone Warfareis already off to a great start.
Call of Duty is still the leader in online shooters due to its legacy.
Perhaps the biggest downside, at the moment, is that there is no release date and only streamers have access to the game. Otherwise, it looks brilliant and will impress those who love hardcore shooters.

After watching many hours of streamed gameplay over the past few days, it’s safe to say that this is going to be the next hardcore, tactical shooter for those who love a challenge and want a degree of realism in an FPS.
To be honest,Gray Zone Warfarehas more in common with games likeRustdue to its expansive, persistent map.

I’ve watched as a player has had a firefight in one area and returned after several hours to see the bullet holes have remained and the dead bodies are left laying in the streets.
It’s a lot more strategic than Call of Duty and the expansive potential for chaotic firefights is huge.
I’m eager to see what we get from another playtest as there’s a vast ‘Ground Zero’ area in the middle of the map that’s currently unavailable and it will add another layer of danger for players.
