
Well, this is the last thing I expected to hear today.
Forget aboutGrand Theft Auto VIfor just a few moments. I know, I know. It’s hard to do.
But an old and beloved favourite has made a grand return.

You’ll soon be able to playGrand Theft AutoIIIon the, wait for it,SEGADreamcast in a move I don’t think any of us saw coming.
The project has not yet finished development so the game isn’t yet wholly playable but it’s exciting to see that someone is tackling this ambitious endeavour.

It turns out,Grand Theft Auto IIIwas initially supposed to release on the Dreamcast so this is somewhat of a homecoming, if the project is successful.

The idea is that you won’t need a modded Dreamcast to play the game. You should be able to play it on a native console once the project is complete.

For now, there are missing textures but the game is running - and that’s a major starting point.
SKMP has already undergone correcting colours. Presumably the restoring of textures will be pretty high on the priority list.

Already, a ton of progress has been made in a very short space of time so it wouldn’t surprise me if a final build was complete before the year is out but we’ll see.

We’ll be keeping an eye on any and all updates. This is an impressive attempt at restoring a small slice of video game history.
