As you’d expect, the results varied, with larger, more visually impressive, games struggling to hit playable frame rates. One of these games wasGrand Theft Auto V,which completely fell apart under the Switch’s hardware. Even after messing around with graphical settings, gameplay couldn’t make it past 6-8 frames per second, so it was more like watching a slideshow than playing a video game.
Obviously this isn’t surprising, as in order for a game like GTA to work on the Nintendo Switch it needs to be properly optimised for the system, which isn’t something Geekerwan could do solo. IfRockstarwanted to do so, it probably could, especially since equally massive open-world games likeThe Witcher 3run on the Switch with little to no technical issues, aside from a drop in graphical fidelity.

That being said, Rockstar isn’t interested inGrand Theft Auto Vanymore, as it’s still working away on the highly-anticipatedGrand Theft Auto VI,which could be releasing at some point next year according torecent leaks.
One thing is basically certain though, don’t expect a Nintendo Switch port ofGTA VIwhen it releases, it’s just not going to happen.
