GTA 6 first official news in months is causing serious controversy

In this world nothing is certain, except death, taxes, and a weekly helping ofGrand Theft Auto 6-related controversies.

Last week, Rockstar Games landed themselves in a bit of hot water after Martyn Ware, frontman for the bands The Human League and Heaven 17, announced thatthe developer had offered him “$7,500”for the rights to feature the Heaven 17 song “Temptation” inGrand Theft Auto 6.

Ware was upset with the small offer, especially considering that it meant that no “future royalties” would be coming his way, and took aim at Rockstar for the amount given that GTA 5 made “$8.6 BILLION”.

As detailedin a Reddit thread on the GTA 6 subreddit, one user broke down what they believed to be the exact nature of the offer Ware was given.

“The offer was actually $7500 PER band member which comes up to a total of $22,500…” noted Ronin_777 in the post, “Something Martyn neglected to mention in his initial tweet.”

“Not only that but Rockstar would also would have to pay the publisher which is usually a 50/50 split…” they continued, “which brings us up to around $45,000. That’s a reasonable price for a song that’s not so popular anymore.”

“This whole thing is stupid…”replied user Puzzleheaded_Sign249, “The value of something is based on supply/demand curve. There’s just so many good songs to choose from, and the artist isn’t the Beatles or Michael Jackson here.”

Although most of the users on the subreddit were quick to agree with the post, which is to be expected given its point of origin, one user chimed in with a rebuttal.

“It seems like a lot of people are missing that the guy objects to the way video games license music and is pushing for a royalty-based payout like most other media”stated RevelArchitectin their reply.

Whatever side of the debate you find yourself on, at the very least it seems that there is a bit more to the controversy than initially stated.

We’ll have to wait to hear from either Ware or Rockstar to discern the exact truth, although whether or not we will is unlikely.
