A former Rockstar Games developer has revealed thatGTA 6’s PlayStation 5 release is taking priority over all other versions.
In truth, Rockstar focusing on “what sells” isn’t all that surprising, especially with GTA fans already roasting theXbox Series S for its limitations. However, knowing that the PS5 is the championed platform for the game won’t be easy to digest for some gamers, especially those holding out for theGTA 6PC port.

Yet, according to formerRockstaremployee Mike York, there’s a very good reason why the PC port isn’t at the forefront of the developer’s plans. “One of the main things I want to touch on is that the reason why a PC port comes later, and not the first thing that comes out, is because they want to prioritise what sells,” explained York via YouTube.

“Most of the time, especially in the past,PlayStationwas the big seller. PlayStation was the console to have; it sold more copies than any other console for the most part; everybody is playing PlayStation.”
We can almost hearXboxfans getting their backs up about this, so deeply ingrained in video gaming culture is the console war. However, while it may not be nice to hear, it’s the truth – after all,PlayStation outdid Xboxdramatically in terms of purchases.
He continued, “The memory usage and different things the game is doing in the background can sometimes hit a fail and mess up during different configurations. That’s what it boils down to. They need to test the game more on PC than they would on an Xbox or a PlayStation. You already have to test the game a ton in order to get it to work, so a PC version is even harder.”

Although this may dishearten some, York was quick to remind people that PCs better allow further details to be added into the game, which ultimately gives PC some superiority over consoles. “They [the developers] can do a lot of different things like adding in more characters, they can populate better foliage because the PC hardware, depending on what PC you have, is going to be able to run it better.”
GTA 6is scheduled for release in 2025, with it initially releasing on PS5 and Xbox Series only.
