According to a former animator forRockstar Games, the lack of promotional material could very well be down to the fans doing the job of promotion for them.

Mike York, who worked onGTA VandRed Dead Redemption 2, expressed the sentiment on his YouTube channel.

He hinted that Rockstar Games’ strategy includes letting fans speculate, post memes, and create theories all as part of their promotion.
It makes a lot of sense. The fans are constantly talking about the upcoming game on social media and Reddit, why create more trailers when fans will keep the game in the conversation anyway?
In theYouTube video, York says, “What’s cool about this stuff is Rockstar can capitalize on it, and if someone has some big theory, even if they didn’t do it on purpose, they can come in and make it look like they did this thing on purpose a long time ago.”
Fans are constantly joking that Rockstar Games are watching the Reddit and laughing at them, and this isn’t far from the truth.

“All the developers over there are geeking out about it,” says York.
That’s marketing on another level, and it even has me excited, and I didn’t even play the last game.

So, if you find yourself frustrated waiting for the next trailer, realise that you’ve been part of the machine all along.
