GTA fans divided over Rockstar’s next game after GTA 6

Rockstar Gamesis not what you would refer to as a one-trick pony, but it’s not exactly far off of being one either.

There was a time, pre-2014, when it felt like the Rockstar umbrella of developers could tackle any type of game they wanted.

Manhunt,Midnight Club II, hell evenRockstar Games Presents Table Tennis- these lot were really working on anything and everything they felt like.

And no, before you say anything,L.A. Noire: The VR Case FilesandGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Editiondon’t count. Those aren’t “new” games, those are re-releases.

Grand Theft Auto’s grip on the developer is a financial one. Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, want the studio to keep making more and more GTA.

Grand Theft Auto V’s ridiculously popular online mode has sucked up all of the developer’s free time, and it is undoubtedly the direct cause ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s lack of DLC.

And let’s be real, it’s probably one of the reasons why several employees reported on Rockstar’s “culture of crunch” back in 2018.

Now they’re jumping from working onGrand Theft Auto V’s online to developingGrand Theft Auto VI, and fans of the developer are a little worried that this is all we’ll see out of Rockstar for the foreseeable future.

You may as well watchGTA VI’s trailer one more time.

In a threadover on the GTA Forums, users discussed what they want to see Rockstar Games tackle next.

“I am legit in a dire need of a new Rockstar IP,” commenteduser Krymefull. “It’s embarrassing to see one of the biggest video game companies of the industry only have like, what? 5 original IPs?”

“I think against all odds it’ll finally beBully 2,” replieduser Emmi. “Even if Red Dead is one of the best and most profitable franchises next to GTA, in my opinion, they should do something ‘fresh’ before the next Red Dead entry, but realistically speaking it’ll be Red Dead next.”

Do you know what I reckon their next game afterGrand Theft Auto VIwill be?Grand Theft Auto VII.

I’m not joking either. Take-Two clearly just want more GTA.

IfRed Dead Redemption 2’s67 million copies in salesdidn’t inspire them to pump out some DLC for the game (because the 205 million copies sold ofGrand Theft Auto Vmade focusing on milking its online way more profitable) then I don’t see Take-Two wanting anything else except Grand Theft Auto for the foreseeable future.

And trust me, it pains me to say that. I wantBully 2just as much as the rest of you.
