GTA Online called the worst thing Rockstar has ever done by angry fans

DespiteGrand Theft Auto Vbeing one of the most profitable games of all time, raking in over 180 million salesacross all platforms,GTA Onlinehas always managed to rub fans the wrong way.

Check out this stunning recreation ofGTA: Vice Citybelow.

This is largely due to its reliance on microtransactions, and while each new update adds some incredible content to the game, it always requires an obscene amount of in-game cash to acquire it.

While players can earn money through various heists, missions, and open-world activities, the quickest way is through Shark Cards, which give you a large sum of fake money at the cost of real money. Players also criticise the balancing, as the most expensive weapons and vehicles are often the most overpowered in the game’s PvP.

It’s this focus on microtransactions that has fans worried aboutGrand Theft Auto VI, asthey fear the next game will double-downon the number of microtransactions available, especially after how much moneyTake-Two Interactiveexecs have made from their income.

While there were plenty of differing opinions onRockstar’sbest work, with some sayingGTA V,others sayingRed Dead Redemption 2, and some saying legacy titles likeGTA: San Andreas, fans unanimously agreed thatGTA Onlineis an example of Rockstar at its worst.

“Best: having the balls to releaseManhunt. Worst:GTA Online’s focus on microtransactions and outlandish vehicles, and none of it being added to the single-player game beyond the earliest stuff," said one comment. “Best:GTA San Andreas, or the 3D era in general. Worst: signed, sealed and approved the invention of Oppressors and Deluxos without a second of consideration as to what they’ll do to [GTA Online]" read another.

WithGrand Theft Auto VIon the horizon (we hope) it’s no wonder fans are worried about the future iteration ofGTA Online. If the next game’s map is as big as leaks make it out to be, there’ll be a lot of in-game real estate for Rockstar to slap sizeable price tags on.
