If you haven’t played it,Half Lifefollows the scientist Gordon Freeman who’s trying to escape the Black Mesa Research Facility, which has been overrun with aliens following an experiment gone wrong.

The first-person shooter was critically-acclaimed, which obviously spurred theSteam-publisher on to develop sequels and even connect some of its other games to the same universe, likePortalandPortal 2.

It showcases the brand-new lighting, which is path-traced for greater immersion and improved graphical fidelity.

We can only imagine how good it looks when you’re actually playing, as the flickering lights and explosions from the wrecked facility probably look fantastic with RTX on.

That being said, as impressive as the project is, it also sort of rubs salt into the wound that we’ll likely never get an official remake from Valve for modern platforms, no matter how much we beg for one.

It’s unknown if and when the RTX Remake mod will be made public, but it’s worth keeping an eye on if you fancy replaying the first Half Life game with some spruced-up visuals.
