Hogwarts Legacy was officially 2023’s best-selling game worldwide

We may be over a month into 2024 now, butHogwarts Legacyhas just managed to secure one more 2023 achievement. Exemplifying what a colossal commercial success the game was,Hogwarts Legacyhas officially earned the title of being the year’s best-selling game worldwide.

WhileHogwarts Legacygarnered a very respectable score of 84 on Metacritic, those positive reviews did not translate into nominations when awards season rolled around. The game failed to pick up a single nomination at Geoff Keighley’sThe Game Awards, but it was a year stacked with fierce competition. You cannot discredit the reviews though, with players also heaping on immense praise - with the note that there is room for improvement. While a sequel hasn’t yet been announced, it certainly feels like a given after this latest bit of news.

In fact, this month marks one year since the game’s release with developers recently taking to Twitter to comment on that very fact: “As we near the one-year anniversary ofHogwarts Legacy, we wanted to let our community know that theHogwarts LegacyPlayStation-exclusive content will be available on other platforms later this summer, along with additional updates and features for the game. Stay tuned in the coming months for more details on what’s coming toHogwarts Legacythis year.”

With the PlayStation exclusive content only having a one year exclusivity window,Hogwarts Legacyfans aredisappointed to see its wider rollout delayedto the summer. Those teased updates and features are quite exciting though, seeing as we’ve been limited to bug patches thus far. Could we seea companion system? Photo mode? A new explorable locale?Hogwarts Legacycould indeed do with something to draw players back in.
