House of the Dragon’s second season has now drawn to a close, with the season finale garnering a mixed reception.
Over on iMDB, ‘The Queen Who Ever Was’ has a rating of just 6.4 making it the second-lowest rated episode of the season, only behind ‘Smallfolk’.
Personally, I enjoyed the finale. Yes, of course, many of us are desperately waiting for this war between Team Black and Team Green to finally get underway, but good things come to those who wait.

This second season has spent a long time putting the pieces into place before the all-out war we’ve been promised in season three.
Following the finale, especially that end sequence, my mind thinks back toGame of Thrones’‘Hardhome’.
For five seasons, we impatiently awaited the full-throttled arrival of the White Walkers having only been offered brief glimpses of these mysterious beings.
When ‘Hardhome’ finally gave us the stand-off we’d been craving, it felt so much more satisfying because of all of those years of build-up.

I feel much the same way as we look ahead toHouse of the Dragon’s third season.
Season two may have been a slow build-up but that set the stage for what’s to come, and I’m sure when war arrives, we’ll be grateful for the laying of all these chess pieces.

The answer is, unfortunately, not that long.
It’s been unveiled thatHouse of the Dragonis set to draw to a close in a fourth and final season.
This shouldn’t come as a total surprise. We’ve always been aware of the brevity ofHouse of the Dragon’s source material.

Condal also added that book fans shouldn’t be disappointed that the famous ‘Battle of the Gullet’ didn’t take place in season two, promising that it’s on the way.
“Based on what we know now, it should be the biggest thing to date that we’ve pulled off,” Condal said. “And we just wanted to have the time, the space to do that at a level that is going to excite and satisfy the fans and in the way it’s deserved.”
With season three targeting a 2026 launch, we’re going to have to be patient, my friends.
