The OP isn’t alone in their feelings – another Redditor said that they were “mixed” on its inclusion,adding, “[I] thought what they did looked cool, though I’m not sure it felt completely right for the character.”
Other Lord of the Rings fans challenged this argument though, saying, “I actually liked the black goo form. I liked the way it pooled down through the cracks, ate a rat to gain strength, and flopped its way to the surface. I don’t think something more ‘mystical’ would have been as enjoyable.”
