Thanks toThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, we’ve got a pretty good idea of what Sauron looks like.
While theAmazonMGM show has shown Sauron in a few forms now, notably Halbrand and Annatar, it was thanks to a character called Mirdania that we get a description of his final form as the Dark Lord.
The Lord of the Rings is back in cinemas soon in an anime adaptation
During episode five ofseason 2, Mirdania is shown handling one of the rings of power. In fact, she slips it onto her finger.

When she does this, she gets a sudden vision of the destruction to come and Sauron’s reign as Dark Lord of Middle-Earth.
After falling to the floor in shock, she relays what she saw to the gathering blacksmiths of Eregion, describing the true form of Sauron.
She goes on to say she saw a tall beast who’s “skin was made of flames” and it had “pitiless” eyes.

This is pretty reminiscent of how Sauron can be glimpsed in Peter Jackson’sThe Lord of the Ringstrilogy and faithful to Tolkein’s original texts where Sauron is described as composed of shadow and flame.
Tolkein never properly descibes the Dark Lord, instead leaving it up to the imaginations of his readers, however, with a visual artform we have to see something.
Hence the armour of the Jackson trilogy, and the actor Charlie Vickers inThe Rings of Power. But Sauron is a shapeshifter and will continuously change his form until he reaches his final stages, only then taking on the shadow and flame visage.
Will the TV show be so bold to actually show this more vividly as the show progresses? It would be quite a move.
