TheLord of the Ringsprequel,The Rings of Power, is set to continue over on Amazon Prime as the showrunners sign on for another season in a new three year deal with Amazon. Patrick McKay and JD Payne have inked a new deal that guarantees we’ll see the continuation ofThe Rings of Powerand work has already started on early preparations for the show.
The Rings of Powerdebuted in 2022 and was received with a mixed reaction, but that didn’t stop the show racking up Emmy nominations and viewers. While the budget secured some amazing sets and costumes, many believed the story too slow and simple compared to theLord of the Ringstrilogy of films.

The new dealwill keep the duo atAmazonStudios and work will continue on the show. There’s no news as to whether The Rings of Power will go beyond the three seasons, there’s plenty of material for the crew to dig into, but it will depend on the audience and their patience for a high fantasy story.
As someone who enjoysLord of the Ringsbut doesn’t count them among my favourite films, I enjoyed The Rings of Power because my investment was low. I’m intrigued to see where McKay and Payne take the show and the lore that has been well established for decades.
