It looks like it’s going to be an exciting time for fans of Konami’s legendary tactical espionage Metal Gear series, at least that’s what may have been teased.

TheMetal Gearseries began in 1987 for the NES and has since received many sequels in the generations that followed. We know that theMGS3remake,Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater,is arriving in 2024 but what else? We’ll likely getMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2which could includeMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. If the fourth numbered entry in the series is included in the collection, it would be its first release outside of the PlayStation 3 since it initially launched in 2008.

During a recent Konamilivestreamon YouTube, dubbed the ‘Metal Gear Production Hotline’, current series producer Noriaki Okamura and promotion manager Jiro Oishi spoke of what the future may hold. In a Q&A section, the duo stated that a release date forMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2is yet to be decided internally. When asked if Konami plans on creating new games, they said that the current focus is onMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but depending on the success of the remake, Konami may consider more remakes or even a new game in the series. No further details were provided, which leaves us to speculate.
However, released in 2015, the last numbered entry isMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which is a prequel to the vast majority of the series. That being said, the ending ofMGS4is very conclusive which would have some complications for a sequel. So if I were to take a guess, if we do get a new game, its story could be a new tale wedged in between other games or if it was to be an actual sequel toMGS4or evenRevengeance, perhaps Raiden could be the one to take the series forward or we can just clone a certain character. No one said that the Metal Gear lore was simple.
As for what we know for sure,Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vo.2will arrive at some point andMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterwill be released this year for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
