Metro Exodus sequel officially confirmed

Metro: Awakeningis on the way, but it’s not exactly what long-time fans were after. The reason? You’re going to need a virtual reality headset if you want to enjoy it which, I’m imagining, plenty of us don’t have.

If theMetro: Awakening VRtrailer left you craving a regular ol’ Metro instalment that you can play on yourPCor console of choice, worry not. The latest VR game is more of a temporary detour than a sign of things to come. It’s Vertigo Games behindAwakening VR, but 4A Games - who developedMetro 2033, Metro: Last Light, Metro: Redux, andMetro Exodus- are hard at work too … Yes, hard at work on the next mainline entry. Rejoice.

Metro: Awakening VRis shaping up very nicely. Check out the game’s trailer below, including a glimpse at gameplay.

That brings us up to 2024 and the launch ofAwakening VRwhich noticeably branches away from the main timeline. If you follow the main timeline though, it leads to one more mysterious entry. Instead of a title, we just get a stylised ‘M’ and in place of a date, we have 202[?] with the final number blurred out. This means we’re definitely getting anExodussequel in the next six years.

The accompanying tweet read, “Metro Exodusturns 5 years old today, and has now sold over 10 million copies. Metro will return in VR withMetro Awakeningfrom Vertigo Games in 2024 - and the next mainline Metro from 4A Games … When it’s ready. Thank you for coming on the journey so far with us.” When someone replied to the tweet, trying to pin down a release year, the account responded with a vague, “Definitely in the future”. It’s all very vague but at least Metro fans can rest easy knowing the franchise’s future is well mapped out.
