A newMinecraftupdate just dropped, titled “Snapshot 24w33a”, and it took about 0.3 seconds for players to figure out exactly how bonkers some of the new improvements are.

Just to clarify, this is the good kind of ridiculous. Players across the board are seemingly having a lot of fun with the update, because it seems to be busted in the fun kind of way and not the broken kind of way.

As Twitter user@WitchOfDusk explained, Snapshot 24w33a introduced “a new gamerule that determines the max speed for minecarts, but it’s an experimental feature so you have to enable it when creating a new world”.
In simpler terms, this means that minecarts can go really, reallyfast now.
Instead of taking my word for it though, have a ganderat this videoof a Reddit user using a minecart to launch a llama into orbit.
Minecarts aren’t the only thing that received some big changes in the Snapshot 24w33a update though, and you can read throughthe entire changelogon the officialMinecraftwebsite if you fancy a bit of a light reading this afternoon.

If you don’t fancy reading through 5,000 words worth of changes though, I got your back. The main areas of focus in the update seems to be the re-introduction of the “bundles” mechanic, a new “Redstone Experiment” for player to try out, and just some general quality of life updates.
Funnily enough, considering how much space in the changelog is dedicated to the bundles mechanic and the Redstone Experiment, there’s only a few lines about the changes to the minecarts; y’know, the part of the update folks seem to be having the most fun with.
