New Star Wars movie replaced with the last film we expected

Disney did have a selection of Star Wars films slated for release over the next few years, but a recent reshuffle has changed that.

One particularStar Warsfilm, which was to be centred around Rey from the sequel trilogy, was scheduled to release on 18 December 2026, but this has been moved and replaced.

Disney is very much focusing on Marvel over Star Wars right now withThunderbolts*coming next year.

We would have assumed that in cancelling this,Disneywould have leapt in to replace it with another of their projects, especially that close to Christmas.

It seems that 18 December 2026 now belongs toIce Age 6. Yes, the sixth film. I wasn’t even aware this franchise was still going.

However, Disney decided to adjust all upcoming projects.

Star Wars fans, don’t panic as there is still a film coming on 17 December 2027, though we have no clue which one it’s supposed to be.

We’ve got many more projects to look forward to, including the film spin-offThe Mandalorian and Grogu, which has Jon Favreau return to the director’s chair.

And over on Disney Plus, the upcomingSkeleton Crewlooks both adorable and charming.

Anyway, instead of watching Rey wield a lightsaber, we can watch the little squirrel dude and his acorn, the weird sloth, and the rest of the animals caught up in another ‘wacky’ outing.
