Nintendo 64 classic quietly being revived for modern consoles

An N64 classic is headed to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 this year, and it’s an absolute banger as well.

As a fan of the classics, I love it when a beloved, retro title is re-released for new and old fans alike, and 2025 marks the return of some of the greats.

It’s not the only Nintendo 64 game now on PC either, asStar Fox 64is available now as well.

Not only are we seeing mascot characters likeGexandCrocmaking a comeback, we’re now getting the criminally underratedDoom 64re-released for current-gen hardware.

Now technically you could playDoom 64on yourXbox,PlayStationand evenNintendoSwitch already, but according to the ESRB, standalone native Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions of the game are on the way.

The game has been rated which is usually a clear indication that it’s launching soon, but there’s no official word on this yet.

It’s one of a fewNintendo 64games that have been given a new lease on life, with one of the big ones beingGoldenEye 64which was re-released for all platforms last year, multiplayer intact.

Like I said before, I love it when older games like this get another chance to shine, as without re-releases like this, the only way to play these games is to get an original copy, which can be hard to find and expensive, or emulate which isn’t legal.

In otherDoom-related news, some mad lads online have converted the original game into what can only be described as itsstrangest form yet, an interactive art gallery where Doomguy swaps his Super Shotgun for a glass of wine and peruses fine art.
