TheNintendoSwitch may hold up very well, but it’s practically ancient for a console. Well, perhaps I’m being a tad dramatic, but it is nine-years-old compared to other current-gen consoles - thePlayStation5 andXboxSeries X/S being in their fourth years.

As such, you can see why there’s an appetite to see the Switch updated with a few new bells and whistles, particularly in terms of the framerate it can achieve.
Well, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently took to social media to announce what’s next for the company: “This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”
“It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation,” hecontinued.
PokémonLegends Z-Ais likely to be one of the console’s launch titles.

Another could be a sequel to one of the Nintendo Switch’s most popular releases as a leaked codename has surfaced online.

It’s both one of the Mario franchise’s and the console’s very best offerings, taking Mario on a hat-tossing, land-hopping adventure.
Leaker Midori hasrevealedthat Nintendo is reportedly working on a project codenamed SPRed with the key information here being that Red is used in the codename of all major Mario titles.
We can certainly expect this to be a big budget new entry though, compared to, say, recent remake projects likeSuper Mario RPGandPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

As for how it’s been inferred that SPRed might be anOdysseysequel, Midori added that Nintendo was working on SilverStar alongside RedStar, which sounds a whole lot like a sequel toOdyssey.
The theory is, and it is just a theory, that SPRed may be an updated codename for SilverStar. Of course, this could be a totally original Mario title so we’ll have to sit tight.
