In September 2023, rumours were making the rounds that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be aspowerful as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/Swhich would have indicated that Nintendo intends to make a big play against its market rivals. Reports suggest that rather than being an all-new and powerful successor, the next console from the Japanese giant will be more akin to a Nintendo Switch Pro if you will. Whether this will mean improved performance and resolution, remains to be seen.
That being said, the new rumours have claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have full backwards compatibility with physical and digital games. It will also have a “slightly bigger” screen on the tablet and will retain a USB-C port for docking.
It is also claimed that while the Pro Controller and original Joy-Cons will be compatible with the new Switch to play games, the Joy-Cons won’t attach to the tablet in handheld mode due to a new horizontal magnetic docking system. So in other words, you can use your old Joy-Cons when the console is docked but you won’t be able to use them attached to the tablet on the go.
