TheNintendo Switchstill holds up fantastically considering that it’s a nine-year-old console, but that’s not to say that it wouldn’t benefit from a few new bells and whistles, particularly when it comes to graphics.
We started to get suspicious last month whenPokémonLegends Z-Awas revealed with the added tidbit that it would be launching “on Nintendo Switch systems in 2025”.

Did you note the plural “systems”?
Our suspicions wereconfirmed truewhen Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, took to Twitter to reveal what’s next.
“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” hewrote.
“It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

Of course, Furukawa doesn’t refer to it as the Nintendo Switch 2, using the phrase “successor to the Nintendo Switch” instead.
The console’s title may have surfaced though.

Leaker Midori has taken to Twitter to say that, according to their knowledge, in conversations between Atlus and Sega the console has beenreferred toas both the Switch 2 and New Switch.

That being said, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the Nintendo Switch 2’s official name. These could be placeholders used given that Nintendo hasn’t officially revealed the console - something that Midori notes.
I’m afraid it’s yet another case of only time will tell.
