Starting to think I’m terrible at my job, because last week I spoke about howthere’s an interesting secrethidden on a specific Xbox Series X variant I had no idea about… and now I’m back with a secret about aPlayStationconsole I also had no idea about.

And yeah, as you can see, just shaking the PS3 DualShock around makes the particles on the screen do a funny little dance. This is possible because of the “Sixaxis” tech that came as standard in all official SIXASIS and DualShock 3 controllers for this system.
As another commenter in the thread noted, if you’ve got a knock-off PS3 controller this will not work.
“This is also the quickest way to check if youre controller is an original OEM controller and not a third party PS3 controller!”commented @tippitytoptweet.
That might explain why most people in the thread were simply unaware that this was even a thing. Or, maybe a lot of us just didn’t randomly shake out PS3 DualShocks around while looking at the home menu screen.

“I can’t believe I never noticed it…”replied @BrasseurMartin, “All those years playing on my trusty PS3, and it had one last surprise. What a console! What an era!”
“I never noticed that wtf???” user@tahmir__ posted, “Now I gotta hook up my PS3!”
Kinda baffling there’s so much stuff out there like this that none of us ever noticed. Has anyone tried waggling their DualShock around on the PS5 Pro menu screen yet? Lemme know, I gotta be ahead of the game on the next one. Can’t be caught lacking a third time…
