Sony has been rolling out quite a few new updates for thePlayStation5 in recent weeks including some features that won’t evenwork on certain models.

Despite the PlayStation 5 Pro being in the works, it appears as though the company is not done with the base PS5.

That is why its latest update is dedicated to the DualSense controller.

More specifically, the addition of ‘Adaptive Charging’ which allows the controller to monitor its charge levels and adjust the power heading to the device accordingly.

This new feature will work when the Dualsense is in rest mode and users will also be able to shut off the power to any unused ports as well as setting up a timer for this to happen.

This means that you can decide when your DualSense charges instead of it happening whenever the controller is plugged in, despite it being at full charge.

As you can probably guess, this will save on power and therefore save you some money as Sony estimates charging controllers in rest mode uses more than 2W of power. Yes, that is a lot.

However, using this new feature on your DualSense controllers could drop this to around 0.5W equalling a 75% reduction in energy usage.

Not only will that save the pennies but it is also a lot better for the environment.

The only catch is that this new feature will only work on the latest PS5 models which were released in October 2023.
