Let’s take a quick look back at previous PlayStation generations, shall we? The length of time between PlayStation consoles has typically been around five to seven years. The PS2 arrived on the scene a little over five years after the OG PlayStation, the PS3 slid into view over six and a half years after the PS2, and the PS4 dropped seven years after the PS3… the same length of time between the PS4 and PS5.

If we assume we’re waiting another seven, maybe eight years, between consoles, that would mean the PlayStation 6 should arrive in 2028 at the earliest.
However, official court documents releasesas part of the Activision Blizzard fight between Sony and Microsoft suggest a 2027 release date for the next PlayStation.

The exact planned release year for the PS6 has been redacted from the document, but it doesn’t take a genius to work out the implication of a 2027/2028 launch for the next PlayStation.
That’s still a fair way away, of course. For now you’ll want to watch out for thePlayStation 5 Slim and PlayStation 5 Pro,which Sony will no doubt be springing on us in the next few years to really get a little extra cash out of us while they finish work on the PlayStation 6.
