PlayStation 6 release window quietly teased by Sony, and it’s sooner than we thought

Over the past decade or so, we’ve slowly but surely started to see longer gaps between console releases. It’s only a small increase in the grand scheme of things, but it’s an increase nonetheless.

It makes sense when you consider the extenuating circumstances. Graphical improvements were bigger and grander in the early 2000s, and these days we have “Pro” models of consoles to tide us over.

So it stands to reason that, potentially, the PlayStation 6 might not hit store shelves until 2029 or even 2030.

Microsoft doesn’t seem to think so however, as in a recent FTC hearing (following their purchase of Activision) the company stated that they believe the next generation of consoleswill release sometime around 2028.

So what doesSonythink about all this?

Ina recent interview with Mark Cerny, who was the lead designer for both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation Vita, IGN’s Bo Moore just straight up asked when we might see their next-gen console.

“We are not discussing PS6 at this time,” replied Cerny.

Moore then pushed again, asking if we might see the console within the next four years, to which Cerny simply replied “Same answer.”

Personally, I’m alright with waiting a little bit longer for a good thing. Plus, it somehow feels like the current generation of consoles have only just gotten into the swing of things.

And hey, we’ve gotthe Nintendo Switch 2to look forward to soon anyway.
