PlayStation boss teases multiplatform future hot on heels of Xbox third-party controversy

Playstation gamers have been laughing from the sidelines at Xbox fans, enjoying a sense of security that they had no right feeling, especially now. Oh yes, there was no way Xbox was going to announce third-party plans and PlayStationnotjoin the party.

EnterSony, its president keen to get in on the third-party controversy. “In the past, we wanted to popularise consoles and the first party titles' main purpose was to make the console popular,” reads the statement.

“It is true, but there is a synergy to it. So if you have strong first party content, not only with our console but also other platforms like computers, first party can be grown with multiplatform and that can help operating profit to improve. So that is another one we want to proactively work on.”

Hiroki Totoki also added that he “personally” thinks “there are opportunities out there for improvement of margins”, an avenue he’d like to aggressively explore to improve margin performance.

In the words of one displeased fan, “The industry is cooked”. But is it really, or are we all getting bent out of shape over something that won’t destroy video games but will just boost accessibility?

So far, PlayStation hasn’t faced much backlash from its fans, however, it feels like only a matter of time before the tide turns.
